“Caroline Fainke upholsters our vision, playing with the reverse side and the right side. She draws on the textile fibers for the substance of her stories, sometimes through contrast, sometimes through declamation, always through dialogue. She evokes reactions from ordinary images, from plausible, real situations, the fibers of which soften the material to help us better understand that innocence is artificial and that the daily lives of others are more difficult than we believe. Her unsent envelopes ring a glass of a society gone mad, where welcoming the other transforms into rejection, except when it is useful to do what we ourselves refuse.”
Speech by Benoit Piedboeuf for the exhibition “L’envers du décor” at the C.A.C.L.B. 2015
